This 8-session group is for parents/caregivers who have a child who has recently come out as transgender and/or non-binary. This group will give you strategies to help support your child and strengthen your relationship with them. In this group you will also explore how this change in your family system is impacting you personally.

Most commercial insurances are accepted, and cover the group at the plan's behavioral health rate.

About the Facilitators:

Picture of SAYFTEE founder, co-director, and group facilitator, Melissa Nishman, LMHC (she/her)

Melissa Nishman (she/her) is the Founder, Co-Owner and Co-Director of SAYFTEE. Melissa is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over 15 years of clinical experience.  Receiving her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lesley University in 2007. Melissa holds extensive experience working in the LGBTQ+ community.  

For over a decade, Melissa has had the privilege of supporting many families through the process of understanding a family member’s gender identity and expression and has helped both families and individuals navigate the complex issues that often arise as a result of a gender transition or non-binary gender presentation. 


Helen Staab (she/her) is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work from Simmons College. Helen has been working at SAYFTEE since the fall of 2020, where she does individual, family, and group therapy with all ages. She facilitates SAYFTEE's Queer Resilience Group for adolescents and regularly runs workshops for parents and caregivers of adolescents living with depression and anxiety.
